On March 23rd-25th, 2016, RESPOND conducted training on the use of ArcGIS Online Application for more than 20 representatives of HIV Monitoring and Evaluation Centers from seven high and medium HIV burden regions of Ukraine supported under RESPOND (Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolayiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts and the city of Kyiv). Representatives of CDC, Ukrainian Center for Socially Dangerous Disease Control of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Kyiv Medical University, PLHIV Network, ICF “Alliance for Public Health”, and “HIV Reform in Action” USAID Project also participated in the training.
The skills and knowledge acquired during the training will allow the participants to design interactive maps using specific data depending on the needs they face and to use these maps to promote data-based decision making.
Currently, there are more than 30 interactive and static maps developed with the TA from RESPOND which are available on National Strategic Information Portal. The maps are updated on a regular basis. They illustrate HIV prevalence, physical location of Trust Offices, ART and MAT sites, and other HIV prevention and support services.
“ArcGIS Online” is a wonderful tool for data visualization. This tool helps to represent large amounts of data in a compact way. It is also a handy tool for presenting contact information and epidemiological data.”
